Gluebook;

collage          copywriting

Gluebook is a project that uses a pre-existing book and intervenes with the present structure and layout. Each spread has a message, with no limitations on the topic. Thus, the themes run the gamut; from a “Meet Lauren” spread, to a spread about passion, and all the way to my inane distaste for sponges.

Art Nouveau Publication;

editorial design         copywriting         content acquisition

This was an editorial design piece that I created that was essentially to work as a coffee table book. It is all about the Art Nouveau Movement, and focuses on notable features of the era. It has a number of sections including the movement’s history, notable designers, typefaces, and architecture. This publication is 54 pages long, and featured content that was complied and curated by me from various credible books on the subject.

Death Valley Salsa Lounge;

logo design         copywriting         product design         brand creation

In creating the branding campaign for "Death Valley Salsa Lounge", I first had to imagine the brand and the environment itself. I came up with the name, envisioning a lounge where people stand, sit and dance. They would dance the salsa, watch or eat the salsa (along with other appetizers or drinks). The ethos around the brand is vibrant, expressive, audacious and coy.

Data Visualization;

research actualization

“Women in Government” was a Data Visualization piece that I collaborated with Aubrey Graham on. The data is about the percentage of women in the lower house of each countries’ governments being represented as a physical bar graph, with each strand representing different countries.

We chose to utilize “arts and crafts” materials that are typically seen as feminine in nature. Problematically, these materials are also seen as unprofessional or childish. This project questions the narrative that is so often pushed that women in the workforce, especially in male-dominated fields, should reject their femininity. However, this is a double-edged sword, as women also feel pressured to do their makeup to meet standards of professional attire. (In case you were wondering, Rwanda had the longest strand).

House Drawings;

illustration

These house drawings started as fun projects that I did in my spare time, but have evolved over a period of about two years. As I started showing them to my friends and family they requested that I draw certain houses. This grew to be a small amount of freelancing  as I do commissions for others.

Album Design;

song curation         image curation

The goal of the album design, entitled Newsworthy, is to emphasize how the design and songs were all important for some reason or another. The cover features an image of a young girl reading a newspaper about the moon landing. The theme remains constant, as each of the songs are important; whether that be controversial or popular or some mix of both.

High Waisted;

typography design         copywriting         poster design

"High Waisted" is a bitmap typeface that I created using individual pixels. The inspiration for the typeface is a pair of pants that I own. Naturally, these are high waisted, but they are also full, wide, and are made of patchwork. I took inspiration from its wide array of colors and textures for use in the creation of the typeface itself and the poster layout upon which I displayed the font.
